Omaha Kings Set for Rivalry Weekend in Wichita

[Omaha, NE] — The Omaha Kings FC head back on the road this weekend for one of the most anticipated matchups of the early MASL2 season — a back-to-back rivalry series against the Wichita Wings.
The Kings will face the Wings twice in Wichita, first on Saturday, January 3 at 7:05 PM CT, then again on Sunday, January 4 at 5:00 PM CT, with both matches taking place at Heartland Credit Union Arena.
A Rivalry Reignited
This weekend marks a renewed chapter in a rivalry that helped shape some of the most memorable moments in the Kings’ early history.
The last time Omaha and Wichita met in a decisive conference playoff matchup was in 2022, when the Kings defeated the Wings in overtime in Wichita to claim the Midwest Conference Championship. Omaha would go on to reach the MASL2 Final Four that season, narrowly falling in overtime to San Diego Sockers 2, who ultimately captured the league title.
That history alone ensures this weekend carries extra weight. For Wichita, it’s an opportunity to defend home turf and settle unfinished business. For Omaha, it’s a chance to reassert their presence in the Midwest Conference and build momentum early in the season.
Early-Season Tests Build Sharper Teams
The Kings enter the weekend battle-tested after opening the season with two tightly contested matches against the Iowa Raptors.
Omaha’s home opener at Baxter Arena delivered exactly what fans love about arena soccer — a fast, physical, back-and-forth contest that remained deadlocked for nearly the entire match before heading to overtime. The Kings showed flashes of their attacking potential and defensive resilience, despite entering the season without the benefit of preseason scrimmages or live game reps together as a full unit.
One week later, Omaha traveled to Cedar Rapids for the rematch, continuing to build chemistry and cohesion against a deep Iowa squad. While the results didn’t swing the Kings’ way, the stretch provided valuable early-season lessons and reinforced just how competitive the Midwest Conference is shaping up to be.
With nearly every matchup expected to be decided by slim margins this year, Omaha’s opening games served as a reminder: no night off exists in this conference.
Wings Off to a Fast Start
Wichita enters the weekend with momentum of its own after opening its season at home with a decisive win over the Minnesota Blizzard. The Wings showcased their offensive depth and will look to use home-court advantage to keep that pace against a Kings side eager to respond.
But rivalry games rarely follow trends or predictions.
Back-to-back fixtures demand depth, discipline, and mental toughness — areas where Omaha’s roster is built to grind, adjust, and respond.
Ready for the Challenge
Now early in the season, the Kings head into Wichita more connected and hungry to prove who they are as this new chapter unfolds.
Rivalry weekends have a way of revealing a team’s identity. For Omaha, this road trip represents an opportunity to turn hard-earned lessons into results — and to remind the Midwest Conference that every match against the Kings is a battle.
